Your photo gallery for Mac — private and on-device.

Loupe is a native macOS app that organizes your photo library with on-device intelligence. It imports a tidy copy of your photos (your originals are never moved or changed) and makes them explorable by people, places, scenes, text, and date. All analysis runs on your Mac — no account, no tracking, no cloud.

Free up to 750 photos, then a one-time $9.99 USD unlock. No subscription. Requires a recent version of macOS.

Features

What makes it special.

On-device analysis

Using Apple's Vision framework, Loupe groups faces (People), labels scenes and objects, extracts text (OCR), and places your photos by location. Nothing is uploaded — it's all processed and stored on your Mac.

Faceted search

A sidebar with Time, People, Place, Scene, and Type that stacks as AND filters. Find “summer 2025 + beach + Sarah” in seconds.

Import from your iPhone

Connect your iPhone over USB and import directly, without going through Photos. You can also drag in folders or Android exports. Loupe dedupes by hash so the same photo is never copied twice.

Find Similar and Trash

Detect bursts and near-duplicates with perceptual hashing so you keep the best shot. Junk review and a two-stage Trash prevent accidental deletions — Loupe never deletes on its own.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions.

How much does Loupe cost?

It's free up to 750 photos. For an unlimited library, there's a one-time $9.99 USD unlock.

Is it a subscription?

No. It's a one-time unlock, with no subscription or recurring payments. It includes Family Sharing and Restore Purchases.

Are my photos uploaded to any server?

No. All analysis (faces, scenes, text, similar photos) happens on your Mac. The only network connection is Apple's service that turns GPS coordinates into place names; only the coordinates are sent, never your photos.

What happens to my original photos?

Loupe keeps a tidy copy in its own library. Your originals are never moved, changed, or deleted.

Which version of macOS do I need?

A recent version of macOS (macOS 14 or later).
